Welcoming the defeat of separatist groups using terrorism in Sri Lanka, and the subsequent return of democracy to the whole of Sri Lanka

Appreciating the rapid resettlement of the vast majority of the Sri Lankans displaced from their homes in the North of Sri Lanka during fighting

Recognizing the need for swift rehabilitation of those conscripted into fighting for the LTTE against their will

Looks forward to sustainable peace in Sri Lanka on the basis of a united nation committed to pluralism and democracy and accountability

Regrets efforts to revive violence in the cause of separatism, and urges political parties in Sri Lanka to enter into negotiations with government for the resolution of problems that remain


Urges the international community to support the government’s efforts at reconciliation and rapid economic development in areas affected by war, with full respect for human rights.
